Behind the lens

I got to play photographer this weekend as it was my little sisters highschool graduation!

She had the ultimate princess dress, her hair did all pretty and a fabulous pre-party party! I basically followed her around all day, shot the ceremony with a 75-200mm af-s lens (should of thought to bring a tripod though...), then took some snaps at the hair dressers too. But most important was the getting dressed and pre-party pictures, which for those I used a 50mm Af-S, which when paired with my 1.5 sensor gave some really great shots playing off of the short depth of field. All the girls were all dressed up eating ordeurves and sipping champagne at one of the gals houses. Then it was time for the limo ride and they even snuck in some champagne! All that work and it was only the start of her night, but naturally that was where I said adieu.

Apparently it was a great evening, epic even. She has lost her voice entirely, but otherwise seems to be still in one piece. Then again she couldn't tell me many details yet cause she was only able to whisper over the phone. hahaha!

The shots turned out great, and I've been playing with them in photoshop for most of the day. Mostly just adjusting the exposures a wee little bit. I'm about to head over to her house for a bbq & to show the edits, might print a few off at the 1hr photo to test how they look printed before hand... If I don't get lazy.

*yeah I know it's a bit blown out but the lighting was really hard to figure out. The raw has more data, but I'm still adjusting levels.*

uh oh! There are thunderstorm noises outside... I suppose the bbq may just get rained out.

Colin ROCKS! I'm so pleased with how this one came out. hehe

Colin is starting up a new project with people and their pets and I was lucky enough to be first. I posted a couple candid shots from this shoot a couple posts back. Jasmine was kinda iffy about being in front of the lights, and I haven't worn a bathing suit much over the winter... But this turned out so well, even I have a hard time believing it.

If anyone knows of a built/tattooed guy who has a pit bull or another manly dog, let me know! Colin is still looking to fill a couple of guy positions in the project.

Oh and on another totally random note, yesterday I was cast as the female lead in a music video. More details to come later, but it's gonna be a steamy black and white affair. ;)

No call, no show...

Very lame...

It's kinda fun when an opportunity presents itself to work with someone who's out of your bubble, to not only get a couple fun shots but to meet a new contact. So, you contact them with full business diplomacy only to be put on hold till after the weekend. Contact resumes, conflicting schedule = rearrange your schedule + turn down other new plans. While waiting for the confirmation call the night before you start the p/t model prep (cause unlike f/t models we're not 100% all the time); jog, shower, clothes, hair, accessories, concept + pose run through. K, ready now where the hell is that confirmation call you said you'd do?

No call, no message. But I can see you've been online. Lame.

Really, schedules change or maybe you simply changed your mind. I don't give a shit, but common you're screwing with my schedule & my babysitters schedule. Have some consideration and at least let me know you're canceling.

I have tried incredibly hard throughout my time modeling to be reliable, dependable and to be on time (if not early). And I expect the same kind of respect from anyone I'm working with; be reliable or at least upfront that you're flaking. *steam shoots out ears*

.end rant.

So, I did wind up going out. Jonas & David were just going to watch some silly movies I'd already seen and I felt bad bailing on Chris even though I hadn't committed 100%. So showered, dressed, trimmed my bangs and had the guys come pick me up. The night was good, we could hardly see the sets but not that that really matters. I ran into a ton of old friends I haven't seen in years. Jono is apparently making music these days so we may try to arrange an electro jam session in the next couple weeks. My buddie from school Ben is getting into cooking and if I can remember the name of where he's working I may have to go try some of his grub. Chris (not the chris in the pictures below) is moving away and I'm going to miss that sexy sexy man. There was one uncomfortable encounter with an ex friend (home wrecker wannabe) but I'm proud to say I remained my composure and didn't backhand/splash a drink in her face/rip her latex dress.

When you take a look at the next couple pictures bare in mind Chris and Tom always dress up as something totally opposing of the nights theme. Last night since it was Demonika's Symphony of Horrors they thought being gangsters would be appropriate. I on the other hand went with a simple black dress, nothing to over the top but still sexy as hell.

My hair seems to be looking awfully brownish. Time to redye it.

Apparently I very nearly had wardrobe malfunction...

Gangster is the new black.

Chillin like villains.

Jaggerbombs! Skanks!

And on the home front, I still got the sod laid out in the yard despite my hangover. Thanks partially to the power of gatorade.

real life: I have callouses on my hands from a long hard day of yard work today. We successfully got rid of the parking lot look and tomorrow we lay down the sod. The boys have gone to get beers to let off some steam. I'm dirty, smelly and hurty all over! yuck.

model life: I'm suppose to be going to a show tonight that some friends are in, cause it's the right thing to do. And I'm already antisocial enough as is, that I really should attend local events to help promote myself and the "scene". A friend of mine even bought me a ticket..

I'm kind of afraid that if I go to the show, I may be overly cranky and wind up getting really drunk. Which may then wind up with me splashing people in the face with drinks. argggg

I'm gonna go have a beer and contemplate.

Holy eyebrows batman! I need to work on that... Oh don't tease me! I kind of want to shave them off already, so any mocking of their unevenness will only provoke me..... btw the pictures over my shoulder are by Jeremy Adshade, cause Colin and Jeremy share a studio.

And over in the corner is my buddy Mister Colin - I Hart Photos!! Shh I snuck the picture while he was setting up. Shhhh....

And and and! My co-star of the evening - Jasmine. Jasmine has been my kitty since I was 5 years old and I love her with all my heart! She's my best friend and at times been my only friend. She's nearly on her deathbed at the age of 16 (almost 17) but I'm still comforted by the peace in her eyes. We'll likely be putting her to sleep soon as she's loosing her bowel control, her hip stability and the ability to keep down food. We suspect she has hyperthyroidism and that's partially why she's so skeletal, but she's lived a good long life but I can see the pain in her eyes. So I may soon be blogging about how I'm a mess cause she's now gone but at least I will always have the pictures from this shoot.

Meow. Goodnight

For anyone who watches the coilhouse blog you'll of already seen this, but it was way too cool not to pass on.

I'll have some stories from Otafest tomorrow once my inlaws leave. For some reason having other people staying with me is the most taxing of all family obligations. My bubble is my bubble, and I don't share well apparently. So I've emersed myself into searching out new and old awesome music and downloading it all. Antiscocial much? *nods*

uh oh there was a crash in the kitchen.... better run.

And now for a new oldie by one of my favorites - Adam Collison of OppositeOctave.

So my friends are positively ingenious, and somehow missed me walking in the show... So alright not totally their fault. There was huge confusion backstage and we were told different paths to take every 5minutes so the walkway (through the bar) changed between the first set and my sets, and the guys put themselves in a great spot to see the first set. But then cause of the change they didn't see me at all. The club had a really weird/untight/suits vibe to it and the guys were more than ready to leave by the time I came out changed after the show. I would of liked to of stayed longer to be social, but we cut our losses and drove over to the Bungalow for drinks. I then wound up getting nearly shitfaced, and then headed home. Unfortuantely the whole fiasco at the first club nearly ruined my night, but Chris saved the day and made me forget the whole damn thing.

Other than not getting anyone's number and the guys having an awkward time (jeans + tshirt vs the suits) it was a really good night. I had a blast walking on the runway, I met a lot of great girls (who I wish I'd gotten their numbers!!) and really had a good time.
Jonas was trying to get the girls in the corner in the shot, cause they had been checking Tom out all night. It was pretty sweet actually.
Jonas and Tom pretending to be gay. Tom we're not so sure if it's an act or not.

Hopefully I'll wind up with some backstage pics, but I forgot my camera so I'm reliant on the other girls to find me and send 'em over.

I'm suppose to be in a fashion show for a new local fashion magazine that is launching, and the show is Friday night! We have the rehearsal tonight in an hour! I had a fitting today at a really cute little store downtown, and a stylist picked out another outfit for me from the other store who's clothes we're borrowing. I'm going to be in a skin tight Jean Paul Gautier dress that I adore! I'll take some candids tomorrow night. ;)

Anyways, I'm going to get back to watching as much of Star Trek Nemesis as I can before I head out.

Spring is sprung!

Spring has sprung, and a weight seems to have been lifted from my shoulders. The contentment I get from sitting on the patio with the sun heating my back can never quite be defined by words. Which brings me to asking why I live in a city where there is nearly constantly snow. Enough of that though! No pessimistic thoughts, just sunshine!! :)

Last night I went out with Marla Singer and Mister Dempster. We drank and ate and drank some more! It was a night of trying out new drinks; we had everything from beers and martinis, to nearly every cider on the menu. Chris was supposedly taking notes anytime I brought something up that could be used against me later. He claims he's going to spill my dirty secrets on his mm page, but we'll see about that. *shakes fist vigorously* Marla is super sweet, much as I expected. We've run in the same circles for years but never really hung out, so it was nice to get to know her a bit. Hopefully I didn't talk their ears off, I tend to get kind of chatty when I'm drinking.

Anyways, dinner time!
